This is a new album. But it's also an old album in that all of the tracks were recorded in either 2014, 2016, or 2018. Why those years in particular? Well, every other year since 2014 I've been participating in Weekly Beats, a project in which you attempt to record a new song every week. This ends up generating a lot of material, especially when you do it for multiple years. All of these songs originated in the Weekly Beats sessions during those years. At the time of this writing I have over 100 tracks that haven't been collected or organized in any way, and that number is going to go up since I'm currently participating in Weekly Beats 2020. I thought it was time to try to sort through some of this large amount of music and do something with it. In a sense, these are "leftovers," but I don't really think of them as "lesser" tracks, just stuff that hadn't found a home yet. I put these 14 tracks together out of the 100+ miscellaneous ones through a sort of intuitive process of what sounded like a cool album experience to my ears, even though none of this was originally "intended" to go together. There's still a lot of weird and cool stuff floating out there that needs a place to call home, so I expect I'll try to put together some more of these albums in the future. As such, you can think of this as volume 1 of a series, which I've been informally referring to as Lab Abstractions. Volume 2 coming at some point down the road, if I get around to doing it. :)
