about

Oh man, this is like a total 2020 track. I'd actually had the title "Falling Forever" written down in a notebook for several years now and I finally got inspired to use it. I think I'm generally a pretty positive person overall and I much prefer to be in a chilled out state of mind, but I have my ups and downs like everyone else. There was definitely a point where this past year was really getting to me. The toxic political environment was utterly exhausting, the no-end-in-sight pandemic was getting really old, the social unrest and mass protests were giving me a sense of anxiety, and I was having some major work related stress. I kind of mined all of that headspace for this song. It's not the most uplifting, but it reflects some things that I was definitely thinking about and it really feels sometimes like the world is teetering on the edge of a bottomless pit.

lyrics

I'm so tired of trying to make sense out of a senseless world
There's no laws and there's no purpose
Except for what we make ourselves
And is it ever a mess

And how long do you think it'll be until we sink
Into the chasms, into the holes, and into the depths we have made?

I've been staring straight into the heart of an eternal pit
There's no sides and there's no bottom
Should we fling ourselves in it?
Falling forever it seems

And how long til the end of all time and all things?
Falling forever, all of us together, falling right into the void

I don't think I'll ever get just why things are the way they are
Don't know why there's pain and evil
Don't know why there's moons and stars
Falling forever in dreams

And how far does this go? Does it end? I don't know.
Falling forever through stormy weather, falling forever again
